Will Thomas at Students for Liberty NYC Feb 23 2008

TAS Director of Programs William Thomas spoke at the Students for Liberty conference that was held over the weekend of Feb. 22-24, 2008. Joining other luminaries from the movement for individual liberty, including David Boaz, Tom Palmer, and Randy Barnett, Thomas spoke to a group of around 50 students on the subject of "Objectivism and Liberty"

Thomas pointed out that the case for liberty faces key challenges today, such as statist environmentalism and the anti-globalization movement, that are based on fundamental moral and epistemological views that cannot be answered merely by political or economic arguments. Instead, more fundamental philosophical arguments are needed. Indeed, Thomas said, we will never have a culture of liberty without wide acceptance of key Objectivist ideas such as reason and the morality of self-interest.

Thomas spoke on Saturday, February 23 and also met with students at the Liberty Fair that day. The Students for Liberty conference was organized by college students from around the East Coast, and was held at Columbia University. The conference brought together students from far and wide to learn more about the ideas of liberty and how to advocate for freedom. Around 110 students attended and the conference was universally acclaimed a great sucess.
