Last April, 45 leaders of prominent religious and secular organizations met in Philadelphia to explore the need to forge a common cause to unite against the forces arrayed against freedom, individualism and capitalism. The purpose wasn’t to convert participants to either belief or atheism, but explore what principles we do share across the secular-religious divide when it comes to personal agency and responsibility, and the implications for issues like free speech, free markets, and freedom of association.
“What is the origin of ‘cancel culture’? Who created this Frankenstein monster?” These questions are topics covered in a recent article by Atlas Society Senior Fellow Robert Tracinski. We invite you to read through as he pulls from Ayn Rand’s 1973 talk “Censorship: Local and Express” to explore the surprising roots of the authoritarian reactionary culture’s response to ideological dissent. It is a bit complicated, but it means the party who at a given time, at a given price, is always a buyer, but at a higher price is not. Some will want to debate that definition, but put simply we are talking about the prime, dominant buyer. And that, today, is the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
