Is political violence in America today really an equal-opportunity phenomenon, or does the historical record point overwhelmingly in one direction?

In his third book, Blood and Progress: A Century of Left-Wing Violence, Noah Rothman sets out to understand left-wing violence in the United States and arrives at a surprising and unflinching conclusion: violence designed to advance political objectives is, in our time, more often a project of the left. Rothman traces today's wave of political terrorism back to earlier waves of left-wing violence in America's history, comparing modern episodes to those committed at the dawn of the 20th century and during the 1960s and '70s to identify common threads in their causes and psychology.

Rothman is a senior writer at National Review whose work has appeared in outlets including Commentary, USA Today, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. He is also the author of Unjust: Social Justice and the Unmaking of America and The Rise of the New Puritans: Fighting Back Against Progressives' War on Fun.
